Institute for Plant Genomics, Human Biotechnology and Bioenergy (BAY-GEN)

Dr. Eva Kondorosi
Scientific Director

Our mission is to develop a Hungarian-French Biotechnology Research Laboratory with an international reputation for excellence, innovation and impact. Research program of the Institute submitted by Eva Kondorosi has won the TELLER NAP Bio program of NKTH dedicated for Hungarian - French collaboration programs and awarding 1.4 billion HUF (5.6 million EUR). The Institute created on March 16, 2007 focuses on discovery science, research and development (R&D) with interlinking programs bridging plant and animal systems. We aim at exploring the natural diversity of biological active plant peptides both in plant and human/animal systems and used them as “green chemicals” against pathogens and as new therapeutic agents in human health care.  Parallel to this, in the field of Biotechnology in Human Healthcare, we shall build new therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative and immune diseases and for cancer. In the Bioenergy program, we aim at developing adequate and timely solutions for more effective energy production.  Our goals are to generate innovative results with potential practical applications in agriculture, human healthcare and bioenergy production.
