Bay Zoltán Foundation for Applied Research

The Foundation was established in 1992 by the National Committee for Technological Development (OMFB, its legal successor being the Research & Development Under-Secretariat of the Ministry of Education - OM KFHÁ), with the purpose of creating an institute suited to carry out efficient applied technological and scientific research and development - as a preparatory step towards accession to the European Union. Such a type of institute is widely used in Union countries and would result in the improvement of the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy by providing an intellectual basis for the development of emerging small and medium-sized Hungarian companies, while satisfying the rapidly multiplying technical and technological requirements.

The Foundation operates as a non-profit organisation and its research and development activity is carried out in the institutes that it has established and owns. The focus of operations at the institutes is the carrying out of applied research tasks. The aim of the institutes’ innovative activity is to develop and adapt technologies, subsequently transferring them with added value. A new aim of the Foundation is to support the popularisation and teaching of certain modern industrial and agricultural technologies by establishing Demonstration Centres. A further important task is to train researchers who will be capable of fulfilling the new expectations set by the globalising market and R&D, through supplementing the Ph.D. courses of universities.
